Fall 2016 Auditions

September 8 and 14, 2016 7-10 PM

Symphony Nova is holding auditions on September 8 and 14, 2016 from 7-10 PM at The Boston Conservatory, 8 The Fenway, Boston (with possible percussion auditions at another location – check your audition email for details). This year, the following instruments will be auditioned for substitute positions:

String Bass

Audition Repertoire for Strings:

  • Two Contrasting movements, using either one or several pieces that demonstrate your technical and lyrical playing.
  • Three Orchestral excerpts of your choice, also of contrasting nature.

Audition Repertoire for timpani:

  • 4 excerpts of contrasting nature

Audition Repertoire for Percussion:

  • 2 excerpts of contrasting nature on at least 3 of the following instruments: Snare, Xylophone or Marimba, Glockenspiel, Cymbals Or Tambourine

We will contact you regarding a specific audition date and time. Selected performers will be hired to perform on our October 21st, 2016 concert. The repertoire includes Kurt Weill’s Symphony No. 1, Mozart Symphony No. 35 “Haffner” and Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin.

Symphony Nova is a professional orchestra, conducted by Our Music Director, Lawrence Isaacson, and is composed of recent graduates and current students from top music schools. Our mission is to turn today’s aspiring musicians into tomorrow’s successful Artists. We hold four concerts each year in the beautiful Old South Church in Copley Square, Boston. A typical rehearsal schedule has four rehearsals on weekday mornings from 10 AM – 1 PM and one concert on Friday night at 7 PM.
